A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PAYROLL SPECIALIST


As our Payroll Specialist, you arrive each day determined to ensure that our employees are compensated properly, paid on time, and that related records are accurately kept. If our employees are the engine that enables our company to provide first-class service to our customers, you are the fuel that powers that engine. You are responsible for accurately and efficiently processing payroll on a semi-monthly basis for 200+ multi-state employees and administering Deltek Time Collection.


You also maintain payroll-related records in CostPoint and ADP by adding new employees, setting up tax information, and entering changes to employee records settings. Conscientiously, applying your attention to detail, you compile and review reports using IBM Cognos Reports, ADP Reports, and MS Excel. You are always proactive, tracking and monitoring changes to the payroll tax and labor laws.


Though you spend much of your time working independently, your interpersonal skills come in handy as you answer employee's payroll-related questions. You also correspond with federal, state, and local tax agencies as well as the payroll processing company to resolve issues. You are always respectful and handle confidential information with the utmost care. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A PAYROLL SPECIALIST

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience with payroll processing
  • 2 years of experience with Deltek CostPoint and Deltek Time Collection
  • Experience with ADP Payroll Software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office


An associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is preferred but not necessarily required. Are you organized and able to prioritize tasks effectively? Do you have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal? Are you flexible and able to adapt to changing business needs?
